Natural Hair Care: Silky Press

9 May

So  I’ve been natural for over 3 years now. For those who don’t know what it means to be “natural”. It means I have no perms or chemicals to straighten or curl my hair. My hair is simply in its natural state. Trust me it takes hard work and diligence none the less I don’t regret my decision. My hair is fully of body, thick and grows beautifully. However there are those days I miss having my hair straight. I generally don’t use much heat on my hair because unfortunately I have been a victim of heat damage. One beautician did a blow dry on my hair that resulted in a whole section breaking . Lets just say I learned my lesson. There are many ways to achieve that straight silky hair you desire. But one sure way is a silk press.

A silk press is when a licensed professional presses your hair with a ceramic iron, using proper oils and heat protectant to keep your hair from getting damaged. The result is a silky, frizz free, shiny and straight hair. It looks like you have a perm without the damaging chemicals. A good press can last 2 weeks depending on your upkeep and regime. EAP Heat has a diverse selection of hair care tools that provide quality products that prevent hair damage. They are ideal for all hair types not just natural hair. However if you are natural this is a must as far as hair essentials goes.

Dont believe me? Take a look at the EAP Heat flat iron at work. And please feel free to order directly by tapping the link EAP Heat

Care-Free Curls…

18 Apr

So I am pregnant and generally I use a relaxer on my hair once every 6 months. But with my recent pregnancy I decided to go natural….. Lately I have been bored with my hair, being that I am the kind of girl who does her hair every month sometimes twice a month but since pregnancy that has been pretty much not happening. With me looking forward to giving birth soon I have been looking into ways I can wear my hair naturally curly yet still look fabulous and feel great. There are so many products, routines, and ways to achieve curly hair but everyone’s curl pattern is not the same. So what works for me, may not work for you…… My advice get a consultation from a someone who specializes with natural hair care. I found several different salons in NYC and I plan on doing just that. If you are afraid of going ol’natural why not try a hair weave. It is a great way for you to get the look, and feel of natural hair without the commitment. I have included a free care-free curly styles I like….. And I will update you guys on my journey to natural curly hair as time progresses.

Natty Pon Deh Front Line…..

So I have a serious obession with locs lately….. Don’t ask me why, or where it comes from but I am intrigued. I remember as a child my mother tried to loc my hair but at the time I was too young and really not into it. But I remember my mother’s friend Sofia had long locs down her back and I loved playing in her hair. Fast forward to the future I have been doing research on locs because I am having a hard time parting with the free feeling of my hair. I love to feel a comb through my hair and scrub my scalp… So I came to the conclusion that I may do loc extensions. Since I have my commitment issues at least I can get the feel of having locs without the full commitment of locking my hair…. I have provided a few photos and a video to show you how loc extensions are done..

Enjoy,

Trend Alert: Braids!!!!

18 Jun
Box braids, micro braids, yarn braids, whatever you wanna call them, there is an absolute rising trend for them.  We’re not talking, low key, micro braids….no ladies we are talking “big, chunky, 1990’s Janet in Poetic Justice braids” LOL:)
Some believe this look to be old and out dated, but I love it!  It has this sexy, bohemian vibe.  Braids are perfect for the summer because they are low maintenance and give our natural tresses a  break from the abuse we tend to give it.  When rocking this hairstyle we can put away all the curling irons, flat irons, blow dryers, and all the other damaging hair tools we fashionistas swear by.  We can rock this look with no fear!
The best part: there is no need for hours at the salon!!!  Random size parts are welcomed because this style is carefree.  There is no need to be perfect and the longer the better.  “Super, super long” to be exact, is the goal!
So my fashionistas, tell me what you think.  Will you be taking it back to the days of Moesha aka Brandy????  Will you be rocking some box braids????
