Kicking it Old School…

18 Aug

So if you saw Beyoncé’s “Love on Top” video or Nicki Minaj “Right by my Side” video then you have caught a glimpse of the latest trend in women’s shoes… The wedge sneaker. It’s a super chic step-up to wearing regular kicks… The trend has been taken by storm with designers such as Jeffery Campbell, Chloe, Marc Jacobs and ASH (just to name a few) adding their latest renditions to the fad… Here are a look at a few of my top picks..

Hats Are Happening!

24 Feb

Milliner Stephen Jones is the man behind the Mad-Hatter head gear designed for Marc Jacobs 2012 fall fashion show. He started the creation of 60 hats back in November. Jones quotes in Vogue UK, “Mark had this idea about the face being surrounded by volume and about beauty.” He also said, “We researched Edwardian shape and Veronica Lake shaped hats.”

Jones has designed hats for well known celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, he did toppers for Issa London, Giles Deacon and Kinder Aggugini. He will also showcase an exhibit on hats titled “Hedonism” at Somerset house. In case you did not know…hats are in, happening, hot and new.  Let’s check em’ out!

Hot Mama…

23 Jan

So I am expecting my first child and despite being pregnant I believe in still being a fashionista… A lot of people think once your pregnant or have a child your fashion should change…. I highly disagree…. This is the time for you to shine hot mama and feel like the queen you are! With that being said I have been looking at diaper bags. I understand that it is used to hold the baby’s essentials however it can still be fab-olo-us….. Here are a few designer bags I am sure you are to love…

*Also I found a few fashionable, afforable ones at walmart.com and babiesrus.com

There are times in fashion when I feel like we make such a HUGE deal out of nothing and then down size major issues. Dakota Fanning has been under heavy scrutiny after her advertisement with famed designer Marc Jacobs was pulled due to being too risqué. The Brits felt her innocence, youthfulness and sex appeal was too much to handle and banned the ad’s. Looking at the pictures I honestly don’t see what the big deal is… Yes she looks youthful, fun, even a bit flirtatious but nothing to the point of raunchy or inappropriate.

I am confused because over the Summer French Vogue thought it was appropriate to use a 10 year old girl to imitate a “top model”… She was dressed like a grown woman, face full of make-up and resembled nothing of a child. I found the pictures disturbing to say the least however they weren’t given as much attention as this recent Marc Jacobs ad with Dakota Fanning.

I want to hear you weigh in on this… I have provided images of Dakota Fanning for Marc Jacobs and of the 10 year old girl posing for Vogue France. Which do you find inappropriate and why??? Please share so we can discuss this hot topic.

Nuclear Wintour: The Fashion Godmother!

5 Oct

If you are a fashionista, you should know your fashion history! British born Anna Wintour is known as the godmother of American fashion and the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine. Her career in Fashion Journalism began at two British magazines. She is known for her eye for fashion and her support for young designers. Her demanding personality has earned her the nickname “Nuclear Wintour” and even an inspiration of a book written by former personal assistant, Lauren Weisberger, roman a’ clef, A devil Wears Prada, which was later made into a successful film starring Meryl Streep and Miranda Priestly.

Her father, Charles Wintour is the editor of London Evening Standard. Anna became interested in fashion as a teenager in which her father consulted her on how to make the newspaper relevant to the youth of era. She has constantly used the channel of magazines to shape the fashion industry but was always subjected to debate on her particular choice of styles and trends such as fur, which was critized by animal activists.

She has an impressive resume’ as a fashion journalist and is respected by many. Her influence extends outside of fashion. She also has her influence in other areas such as persuading Donald Trump to let Marc Jacobs use a ballroom at the Plaza Hotel for a show when Jacobs and his business partner were not financially stable to do so. She has encouraged Christian Dior to hire younger, fresher designers which can cater to the young generation of our era.

Even though there are complaints about her role as a powerful fashion decision maker, it has been dismissed by those who are familiar with how she actually exercises that right. “She’s honest. She tells you what she thinks. Yes is yes and no is no”, said Karl Lagerfeld, a German fashion designer. “She’s not too pushy” agrees Francois-Henri Pinault, chief executive officer of PPR, Gucci’s parent company.

Because of her powerful position, her wardrobe is always subjected to being scrutinized and imitated. It has been said that industry publicists often hear, “Do you want me to go to Anna with this”? Let’s face it, she is a fashion genius and one of the most successful editor-in-chief who has embrased fashion with extreme creativity and was able to share it with the world.

Trendy Summer Handbags!!!

11 May

Some of you may already know that I’m a HUGE bag lady!!! There is nothing better than rocking a nice bag on my arm or wrist. In my opinion, I feel as if  it’s a statement on its own and ultimately adds to your whole outfit. As we have mentioned in our Trend Alerts, this  is the season where we have seen the designers step up their “A” game in the clothing realm. Therefore, it comes to no surprise that they are doing the same for FABULOUS handbags.

Below are some pics from your favorite designers, for the summer season. Please take a look and let me know what you think!

  • Add this lovely little number from Gucci, to your summer collection!
  • You can always count on Christian Louboutin to give you a Studded look.

  • I like this bag from Lanvin! It just screams Puerto Rico or Bahamas! I’m ready for a VACAY!

  • Loving this color from Marc Jacob, it’s so SUMMER!!!

Be Blessed!
