Happy Holidays…

25 Dec

So it is Christmas and it seems 2011 has simply blown by….. I am still sitting here in complete shock. Many of you are un-wrapping Christmas gifts,  sharing smiles and laughter with family/friends, enjoying a fabulous meal or just giving thanks to the Lord our Saviour for carrying you through another year…. It is funny that in 6 more days me and my writers will be celebrating  the anniversary of this site….. Just to think it began as a way for me to express my love of fashion, food, culture and simply life. I feel blessed in knowing I survived my first year.

It has been a rough road but with patience, endurance, hard-work, dedication and constant prayers we are here…. I just want to thank all the readers, subscribers, bloggers and family/friends who have supported the site!!!! You are all appreciated… I would also like to thank all the beautiful, humble and dynamic people we have interviewed who have allowed us an intimate walk into their lives and business…. We are grateful for your contributions in making Simply Studded what it is today!!!!! I just want to send everyone a personal, warm, heartfelt, MERRY CHRISTMAS, Happy Hanukkah and Kwanzaa….

A Gift Fit for a King

22 Dec

Christmas cards have been sent, gifts are under the tree, and dinner plans have been made, but let’s not forget what this season is really about, the birth of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Thinking about the Christmas story, I wondered what I would have brought as a gift to the young majesty.  Of course food is always the first thing on my mind. While listening to some Christmas songs, this is what I came up with… So we’ve got “chestnuts roasting on an open fire”, “a turkey and some mistletoe” (By the way, that doesn’t sound appetizing to me.)  “some homemade pumpkin pie”, candy canes, “marshmallows for toasting”, and “some corn for popping”.  Hmm… I think I’ll pass.

On Christmas morning, my favorite thing is to wake up to the smell of freshly baked bread.  Sounds so simple right? Really it is, but I just LOVE it!  I love everything about freshly baked bread, the smell, the texture, and of course, the taste. There is nothing like it. That’s what I would have taken to the new born King.

Now let’s get to baking, we’ve got a King to impress.

6 cups flour

2 tsp. salt

2 tbsp. granulated sugar

1 tbsp. or packet of instant yeast

1 cup hot milk

1 cup water

2 tbsp. shortening

  1. Combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
  2. Combine hot milk, water, and shortening; cool to lukewarm.
  3. Add milk to flour mix together to form a soft dough.
  4. Knead dough on a floured surface until it forms a small ball. (about 8 minutes)
  5. Place in a greased bowl; cover with a damp cloth and allow to rise until doubled.
  6. Punch down and shape into two loaves
  7. Place in greased loaf pans.
  8. Cover and let rise until doubled. (about 30 minutes or more)
  9. Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees F for 30-35 minutes.

Makes to 2 loaves

Mmm take a bite out of that!

DIY: Holiday Decorations

7 Dec

So the holiday is drawing near and you want to make your home look and feel more festive. Why not use your Christmas ornaments to jazz things up, a little. We are so used to using ornaments on the Christmas tree that we don’t realize we can also add them to a clear vase to add a little flair to the home, adorn them on a Christmas wreath to add that extra special touch, fill them in a festive flower vase to add a little spice to the flower arrangement or lay them in a dish on the table to add that bit of sparkle and shine for the holidays. There are so many ways you can dress up your home inexpensively and make it look like a million dollars. Believe it or not but I find a lot of Christmas decorations at the 99 cent store. They are cheap but just as beautiful and just as resourceful. I have included a few pictures below.

Happy Holidays,
