Ruffian Designers & MAC Collaborate

15 Jun

It’s being referred to as a couture product, superior to nail polish. Ruffian designers, Brian Wolk and Claude Morais are collaborating with well known cosmetic line MAC, on three lipstick shades (deep red, shimmering gold, peachy nude) as well as the revolutionary  three stick-on acrylic nail sets, all punky riffs off a French manicure.

MAC  is continuing to stay relevant by combining products to not only make our faces beautiful and healthy but to give us a quick nail makeover.  “It’s revolutionary. It’s going to revolutionize the makeup industry,” teased Wolk. The pair said they brought the idea to MAC’s John Demsey, and have been working together on the project for a year. Let’s take a sneak peak at the upcoming products and the men behind the scene. I am always excited to see new products. All items hit stores on June 18.

The Simmons Sisters: It’s A Family Affair!

1 Jun

Rev Run daughters Angela and Vanessa Simmons has taken the entertainment industry by storm since appearing on their family reality show “Rev Run”. They have set an exemplary portrayal of a relationship among siblings who are equally famous, owning the same company and setting themselves apart. They did not earn this success on their own. They have a strong foundation which includes their father known as Rev Run and let’s not forget uncle/mogul Russell Simmons.

I admire the way they work together and also the projects they have under their wings independently. Let’s take a look at their journey together not only as young women in business but sisters together and working independently.

Disco Queen Donna Summer Dies!

19 May

Like the king of pop and the queen of pop, Donna Summer, the queen of disco, bestowed a title fit for a musical royalty has died today from battling lung cancer.  She never embraced the title because she grew up on rock & roll. She once said, “I grew up on rock `n’ roll,” when explaining her reluctance to claim the title.

Even though disco boomed and lasted for just a decade before crashing in the 1970’s, Summer’s beautiful voice and face still was penetrating that genre of music. She sang hits like: “I Feel Love,” “Love to Love You Baby” and “Last Dance,” which incorporated the rock roots she loved. One of her biggest hits, “She Works Hard for the Money,” came in the early 1980s. The song had a lot of guitar instrumental as well as Summer’s booming voice.

Summer died of cancer Thursday morning in Naples, Fla., said her publicist Brian Edwards. Her family released a statement saying they “are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy.”

Summer may not have liked the title and later became a born-again Christian, but many remembered her best for her early years, starting with the sinful “Love to Love You Baby.”

Religion played an important role in her later life, said Michael Levine, who briefly worked as her publicist.

“Her passion in her life, besides music, was God, spirituality and religion. She held a bible study class at her home every week,” he said.

Her glittery gowns, long eyelashes, luxurious hair and glossy lips. Her sultry vocals, her bedroom moans and sighs. She was as much a part of the culture and fashion era as disco balls, polyester, platform shoes and the music’s pulsing, pounding rhythms with a mix of disco and her all time favorite rock and roll. You will be missed Donna Summer (1948 – 2012).

Models Nurture Music Careers!

27 Apr

More and more models are dabbling into the music career. In fact, a lot of celebrities whether they are singers or actors/actress are getting into different areas of the entertainment business.

If you are an actor/actress you are singing and vice versa. Now let’s get straight to the point…Miranda Kerr who has had a very successful career told the British Vogue, “I have recorded a couple of songs, actually, that no one knows about! You probably won’t hear them but I love to sing!” She refused to discuss the genre or titles, but “açai” does rhyme with “you and me.” This is the stuff of a chart-topping album. also got caught up with Ruby Aldridge at Coachella, who mentioned that her band, “tentatively called Texture,” held its first concert at an art opening in New York a few months back.

Do you think singers should be acting or actors/actress should be singing? Should everyone just embrace their original talent and  not try to cross function into any other genre? What do you think studded fans? I wanna hear from everyone.

She also stars in the movie Avengers alongside co-star Mark Ruffalo, who comments on Scarlett’s performance by saying “She’s a badass…Scarlett played it really well, with a wink in her eye.”

On her young success: “It feels like a lifetime ago. Am I happy I’m not 20 anymore? Yeah. Nineteen? I don’t want to be that age. It’s incredibly confusing.”

On performing on Broadway: “I know it sounds supercorny, but it was a dream come true. That sort of pressure of having to deliver—I just find it thrilling.”

On her split from ex-husband Ryan Reynolds: ““It was horrible. Of course it’s horrible. It was devastating. It really throws you. You think that your life is going to be one way, and then, for various reasons or whatever, it doesn’t work out. This was something I never thought I would be doing. And there’s no way to navigate it. Nobody can give you the right answer. It’s never anything you want to hear. It’s a very lonely thing. It’s like the loneliest thing you’ll ever do, in some way.”
