With us celebrating a day of freedom, equality, and justice; Martin Luther King Day…. It brought up so many thoughts of how we as women have overcome. In these coming years women have scaled the glass ceiling of human rights. Ethiopia has passed progressive abortion laws in Africa to fight against inhumane and unsafe abortions. In 2011 Brazil elected the first Woman President Dilma Rousseff into office. With so much progression going forward I can’t see it coming to an end.
As women there are countries that we thrive in and for good reason. Sweden offers parents 16 months paid leave per child (with an incentive like that wouldn’t you enjoy parenting), Iceland offers one of the greatest forces of gender equality, Denmark spends 3% on government-funded child care and women make up 60% of the work force. And our good ole USA is ranked highest for woman pursing education…. We continue to climb the social ladder of success but we continue to make strides everyday as women. Remember the road to success is never easy but we are all standing on the shoulders of so many great women and men who have paved the way for us to dream, live and be FREE!
Woman must not accept; she must challenge.
She must not be awed by that which has been built up around her;
she must reverence that woman in her which struggles for expression.
