Fried Chicken to Fry, or to Bake…That is the question!

Golden Brown Fried Chicken

Is there anyone out there that doesn’t love fried chicken?  I do not think that I really know of anyone that dislikes it.  It’s one of those things that’s a staple for your appetite. But it is also one of those things that if consumed too regularly, can be pretty unhealthy.  Fried chicken can be delicious piping hot, or right out of the refrigerator.  Mmm cold fried chicken is one of those “mid night snack; standing in front of the refrigerator with the door still open, munching with greasy fingers, while eye scavenging the rest of the fridge” guilty pleasures. Sorry… I was day dreaming.

But I have to say that not everyone can make GOOD fried chicken.  Sorry if I just burst someone’s bubble.  I believe that the key to make anything taste good, especially poultry, meats and seafood is to first season it.

So here is a good fried chicken recipe and also, a video on how to make the healthier “Baked Fried Chicken”.  Because I know that my Simply Studded readers are really health conscious, I know that you will really appreciate the video.

Fried Chicken

Chicken 2 lb.8oz.-3 lb. each cut in 8 pieces

Salt and Pepper to taste

Garlic Powder 2 tsp.

Onion Powder 2 tsp.

Dried Oregano 1 tsp.

Dried Basil 1 tsp.

Flour 9 ½ oz.

Buttermilk 8oz.

Oil as needed

  1. Season chicken with salt and pepper.
  2. Add the herbs and spices to 8 ounces of flour.
  3. Dip the chicken pieces in the buttermilk.
  4. Dredge the chicken in the seasoned flour.
  5. Pan-fry the chicken in ¼ in. of oil until done, approximately 40 minutes, turning so that it cooks evenly.  Reduce the heat to prevent the chicken from becoming too dark. Remove the chicken when well browned.

Now that you have finished cooking your chicken, you can pair that with some Creamy Coleslaw and sip on some Ginger Beer to wash it down.

Mmm Take a bite out of that!
